As I was trying to think of something to write for this weekly email, I began to wonder if living in this season of life actually prepares us to better experience the Advent season.

We live in a time of significant waiting and longing…longing for life to return to some semblance of order. For the debates and arguments about masks vs. no masks, vaccines vs. no vaccines to eventually end.

Romans 8:28 tells us God can work all things together for the good of those who love him and who have been called according to his purpose.

So what might God be doing in your heart as this Advent season approaches? What opportunities is God giving us in this time to draw closer to His glorious grace even in the midst of all that plagues us, that makes us tired and longing for some better future. Each of the scripture passages in our Advent sermon series deals with this waiting, this longing and hope for a new day, where God’s peace reigns over the earth. I think we need passages like that in times like these.

For they do not remind us simply that better days are ahead on this earth, but also when we are united with Christ in the age to come. This is the second “arrival” the season of Advent provides for us. So may we each experience hope in this season of waiting, trusting that God will bring to completion the good work God began in us (Phil.1:6).

Blessings in Christ,

Stu
